Cookies
Use of cookies by TVRUG
When we provide services, we want to make them easy, useful and reliable. Where services are delivered on the internet, this sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. They cannot be used to identify you personally.
They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site. Cookies are just harmless files. Cookies cannot look into information stored on your hard-drive. It is technically impossible for cookies to read personal information. Cookies can only store data that is provided by the server or generated by an explicit user action.
The table below describes this sites use of cookies and their type. Where cookies are persistent the duration of that cookie is provided.
One of the cookies we use is essential for parts of the site to operate and has already been set (see ‘Essential site cookie’ below). Another cookie is essential and used to prevent repeatedly asking the user if they accept site cookies.
Cookie | Type | Duration | Purpose | More information |
---|---|---|---|---|
PHPSESSID | Session | Lasts until the browser window closes. | Records the session id and is set by the Content Management System to ensure all accesses on all pages are from the same user. Partly used for security therefore. Also once you have logged on with a username and password (if you have such an account), you don’t have to do it for every Web page you request from our site. | Until the Content Management System is changed (and it may not) this cookie is regarded as essential. |
TVRUGstyle | Persistent | 1 year | If the user accepts cookies this informs whether the user is using the default styling or the contrast high visibility styling. Values TVRUGdefault and TVRUGContrast only. | Prevents the user being asked every time they use this website. |
TVRUGfs | Persistent | 1 year | If the user accepts cookies this informs the sites' default font sizing to be presented for each page. User changeable via the functionality provided (Bigger, Reset, Smaller). | Prevents the user being asked every time they use this website. |
Most web browsers allow some control of most cookies through the browser settings. To find out more about cookies, including how to see what cookies have been set and how to manage and delete them, visit www.allaboutcookies.org.
